PRINCIPAL RF ENGINEER

Job Description:

The job requires comprehensive knowledge of RF Engineering and consulting for completion of complex and advanced level assignments. Principal RF Engineer (PRE) is responsible for independent problem solutions including linking budget analysis, system dimensioning for coverage and capacity, initial system design and dimensioning, site identification and evaluation, zoning analysis, zoning testimony support, frequency planning and interference analysis. The engineer should be able to undertake network performance improvement tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform RF network design, planning and optimisation activities
  • Perform link budget analysis, design criteria and traffic analysis
  • Ensure data integrity of various morphology/topography databases and drive test data for model calibration
  • Carry out area and site surveys to identify RF equipment location and antenna orientation
  • Analyse equipment co-location requirements for multiple operators
  • Perform inter-modulation analysis
  • Perform site candidate evaluation
  • Support leasing/zoning teams as subject matter expert at zoning hearings
  • Verify RF related site engineering drawings
  • Perform site build verification and acceptance
  • Perform frequency and BCC planning and/or PN planning
  • Perform co-channel and adjacent channel interference testing and analysis
  • Undertake network performance improvement (KPIs) and optimisation tasks
  • Undertake BSS parameter audits, suggest and fine tune parameters
  • Implement new S/W or BSS parameters for overall network improvement
  • Work with Regulatory agencies on Spectrum Issues, plan long term frequency planning

Qualifications & Essential Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 5 years relevant experience or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in RF wireless design engineering for a telecommunications systems. The work experience should be related to RF network and infrastructure planning, deployment and optimisation experience.
  • Must have experience in mobile radio propagation aspects through working on two of the following technologies GSM/GPRS, CDMA/1xRTT, UMTS, EVDO or HSPA.
  • Must have worked on any two of the following equipment - Ericsson, Nortel, Nokia Siemens, Motorola and Lucent.
  • Must have worked on one or more industry acceptable performance data management tools, drive test tools and other optimisation tools.
  • Require travel at short notice and relocation within the USA.
